Grenadier Guards
Alfred John Hill, known as Jack, was my great, great uncle. He died on 13th October 1917 whilst serving with the Grenadier Guards and is commemorated on Panel 9 of the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, Passchendaele. He was 27 years old. His photo is now part of the Military Heritage banner on this website. (Submitted by B. Hill)
Honourable Artillery Company
Arthur R J Dommett, a local government officer from Chard, Somerset served with the 1st Battalion Honourable Artillery Company from June 1915. He was wounded in the neck at Beaumont Hamel in November 1916 and did not return to the line. He was my grandfather. (Submitted by B. Hill)
Rifle Brigade
Rifleman Henry Thomas Baker from Stoke by Nayland Suffolk was my grandfather. An "Old Contemptible," he served in 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade (Prince Consorts Own) from August 1914 (Mons) until 1918. Mentioned three times in despatches, he was awarded the MSM and Gazetted on 3rd June 1919. (Submitted by C. James)
Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
Thomas Trott of Chard, Somerset originally served with the Somerset Light Infantry but was later transferred to the 7th/8th Btn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 16th August 1917, aged 30 and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, Passchendaele. He was my great, great uncle. (Submitted by B. Hill)
Royal Welsh Fusiliers
Private William Charles Flint – Royal Welsh Fusiliers killed in action 16 May 1915 at Battle of Festubert aged 19. Recorded at the Le Touret Memorial. An uncle we never knew, but who was always lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters. (Submitted by M. Peterson)
