Cavalry - Regular Army

The popular view of the cavalry during the Great War was that they were the favourites of the generals but ineffectual.  This is far removed from the truth.  In reality cavalry troops were vital to the war effort in Egypt and Palestine, and on the Western Front mounted troops frequently fought dismounted as infantry.
