Britain's first Marine Force was raised in 1755. In 1862 it was organised into two corps - The Royal Marines Artillery and the Royal Marines Light Infantry. The Royal Marine Labour Corps was formed in 1917 from personnel of the Army Service Corps but was disbanded in 1919. The Royal Marine Light Infantry and Royal Marine Artillery were amalgamated after the Great War into the Corps of Royal Marines.
