The Army Ordnance Corps was responsible for the supplying, repairing and maintaining the arms and ammunition required by the fighting forces.   This was a highly skilled and often dangerous task carried out with distinction and gallantry.  Men of the Army Ordnance Corps served in every theatre of the Great War.  Static and mobile workshops were set up to maintain the guns as close to their positions as possible.  The Army Ordnance Corps was granted the "Royal" designation in 1918 in recognition of their war service.
