The Army Service Corps had a pre-war strength of 5,500 all ranks. They were responsible for supplying the British Army with food, clothing and stores. By the end of the Great War the Army Service Corps had reached 350,000 men and in November 1918 it was feeding over five and a half million men and over three-quarters of a million animals.  It operated over 125,00 motorised vehicles as well as horse drawn transport.  The Army Service Corps sustained nearly 20,000 casualties during the Great War. Men of the Army Service Corps served in all theatres of the conflict.
