Leinster Regiment lapel badge

Ref. Code: BADGE20

Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians) lapel badge.

£4.59 inc. VAT

Description

Our Leinster Regiment lapel badge depicts the cap badge used by the Leinster Regiment prior to its being disbanded in 1922 on the creation of the Irish Free State.

The full title of the Leinster Regiment was The Prince of Wales's Leinster Regiment (Royal Canadians), hence the use of the Prince of Wales's feathers in the badge design. The regiment was formed in 1881 on the amalgamation of the 100th Regiment (Prince of Wales's Royal Canadians) and the 109th Regiment (Bombay Infantry). The 100th had been raised in Canada in 1858 as an expression of loyalty at the time of the Indian Mutiny. The 109th were one of the old Honourable East India Company's European regiments.

During the First World War the badge of the Leinster Regiment was produced in two variations; one with the regimental motto "Ich Dien" (I Serve) on straight scrolls as per our lapel badge and another with more rounded scrolls. The badge was produced in bi-metal, all bronze for officers and in an all brass economy pattern for other ranks.

Approx lapel badge size: 25mm x 25mm
Material: All metal with antique gold finish and safety clasp.
